Hello! I am currently a senior research associate at the ESRC Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science (CASS) within the Department of Linguistics and English Language at Lancaster University, UK.

I work closely with Professor Elena Semino, Professor Paul Rayson and Professor Sheila Payne on the 4D PICTURE project, with an aim to develop a conversation tool for cancer patients, their significant others, their clinicians and citizens based on the analysis of patient experience data and citizen science methods.

My research interests focus on combining computer-aided methods—such as corpus analysis, data analytics, and natural language processing (NLP)—with qualitative methods—including (critical) discourse analysis and narrative analysis—to study metaphors as linguistic, discourse, and communication phenomena.

I am particularly interested in how people from different cultures and communities use figurative language to express their feelings, beliefs, experiences, and identities, with a focus on comparisons between Chinese, British, and American cultures. Currently, I primarily work on digital health communication across cultures and contexts. I also touch upon multimodality and digital journalistic discourses.
